What is the Yellow Dog Project?

As a Dog Walker and Dog Owner myself I know how important it is to respect the space that some dogs need. Whether it be for health reasons or social issues many dogs do need to be given a bit of space until they get comfortable with their surroundings and the dogs or people around them.

While you may be happy that your dog is sociable and friendly, it just may not suit the personality of another dog. So I think the Yellow Dog Project can certainly go someway to helping people become more aware of the dogs around them.

What is the Yellow Dog Project?

“The Yellow Dog Project was created to bring awareness to the general public about dogs who need space while training, recovering from surgery or being rehabilitated.”

By placing a yellow ribbon on your dogs lead it alerts people to the fact that your dog may have health issues, might be in training, is perhaps very nervous or is working on their socialisation skills.

It would certainly be a great idea for a dog that maybe has come from the rescue centre and needs time to trust and adjust to their new surroundings.

Or maybe your dog just isn’t great with other dogs and likes their own space!

It’s something that obviously will only work if people are aware of the yellow ribbon idea – otherwise it’s just a pretty accessory!

Follow the Yellow Dog on Facebook and maybe it’s something that could help your dog or a dog that you know.

You can also follow the Irish Yellow Dog Facebook Page and spread the word. There are posters that you can download on there as well.

Happy Dog Walking!!
