When I was out walking some of our client’s dogs I noticed a new restaurant had opened on the route. Union 8 looked like a place that we would enjoy and as part of our series on things to do when you use a Pet Sitter we decided to book a table and check it out that evening.
Union 8 describe themselves as
“a contemporary neighbourhood Eatery situated in the heart of the vibrant residential, cultural & business district of Dublin 8. Close to Kilmainham Gaol, IMMA, St. James’s Hospital and Hilton Hotel Kilmainham.”
Location
UNION 8 is located on St. Circular road in Killmainham close to Hilton hotel, IMMA and St. James Hospital.
Ambience
As we arrived, we were warmly greeted by smiling staff member who brought us to our table. The restaurant seemed to be quite busy but was clean and well organised. Within a few minutes the waitress brought us menus and offered drinks. After we ordered drinks we started to focus on the menu which included starters, mains, desserts and a good selection of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.
Menu/Food
There is a great selection of food on the menu and something to suit all tastebuds.
For a starter, we decided to have a selection of Irish farmhouse cheeses, chutney and crackers. (9 euro)
After few minutes cheese boards were ready. We were delighted with the selection of cheeses on the side with caramelized red onion which was an awesome combination together with chutney.
For main course, Igor ordered Seafood linguine, shellfish bisque, slow cooked tomato and Parmesan (20.50 euro).
He was nicely surprised with the great fusion of pasta, tender shellfish and creamy perfectly spiced sauce topped with Parmesan cheese.
My meal was absolutely delicious. I had Beef shin ragout, Pappardelle and wild garlic pesto (18.50 euro)
The pulled beef was slightly seasoned, the pasta cooked to perfection and the sauce topped with wild garlic pesto.
During our meal the waitress checked on us regularly. Both our portions were not too big, but just enough. This was perfect for us as we were definitely planning to have deserts.
After we finished our meals we ordered deserts what is always my favourite part of a dinner. Igor ordered Salted caramel hot chocolate fondant with Honeycomb ice-cream (7 euro)
I had Caramelised lemon tarte with raspberry and Gin sorbet (7 euro). We were very impressed with both.
Review of Union 8, Kilmainham, Dublin 8
We were both very satisfied with the overall dining experience and we will definitely come back.
