Dog Friendly Cafe: The Gap Kitchen, Glencullen, Dublin

Pet Sitters Ireland Celebrated Dog Friendly Ireland Day in The Gap Kitchen Glencullen … and it gets the 5 Star Paws Up!

To support and celebrate Dog Friendly Ireland Day, we were looking for somewhere local to bring our furry friend for lunch with us!

Yes, to bring our dog INDOORS while we were having lunch, instead of the usual taking turns waiting outside with the dogs, while one of us ordered lunch to go.

So, we were absolutely delighted to find The Gap Kitchen in Glencullen.

It is easily accessible even though it is up the mountains (coming from Rathfarnham you can drive up the Edmonstown Road or from further afield you can use the M50 and it is only a short distance from the Kilternan / Cabinteely exit 15).

Dog Friendly: 5 Star!

What a lovely thing to see as you approach a food premises … A sign outside saying, “Dog Friendly”.

Unfortunately, in Ireland this is the first time I have seen a sign like it … we are still quite reluctant as a country to welcome dogs into the routine of our daily lives … Despite the fact that 40% of households in Ireland have at least one dog, the majority of businesses are not realising the potential of opening their doors to our canine pals yet.

So, a little nervously I walked inside with Marley (our dog researcher for the day) and asked if we would be allowed to have him sit with us inside while we were eating our lunch… the reply was “Of course!”

They then started to explain to us that it was Dog Friendly Day ? welcomed us in to sit wherever suited us inside and showed us where the dog water bowls were and the walking trail… which we decided to try out before lunch…

Location / Scenery: 5 Star!

What a scenic location…the walking trail starts beside the cafe and is part of the Dublin Mountains way.  We went for the short route on the day, but we are planning to try out the longer one on our next visit.

You can see all of Dublin from this vantage point and the views are spectacular!

What was also impressive was the presence of bins with poo bags provided on a roll beside them (a refreshing change to the usual searching for a bin to dispose of the bag).

Staff: 5 Star!

The warm welcome when you arrive (which is absolutely inclusive of your canine pal) created a lovely atmosphere where we were able to relax inside with our dog and not feel at any stage like we were in the way.

As this was our first trip, we had some questions and all of the staff were helpful and informative.

Marley got lots of attention and cuddles which he loved and made some canine friends too whilst his human family were busy chatting.

Food: 5 Star!

Food is sourced locally and is absolutely delicious…you can check out their menu on their website thegapkitchen.com

They specialise in Fresh Tasty Treats, Fresh Barista Coffee and their LEGENDARY BURGERS!

Marley our canine companion was very impressed with their chicken ?

So, it is a definite 5 Star Paws Up from Marley and we will definitely be back for a visit soon!

The Gap Kitchen Café is located within the Glencullen Adventure Park (The GAP), which is home to Irish Mountain biking, a waypoint for road cyclists and a base for strollers, hikers, and walkers.
