When you think of baking for your pets you probably automatically think of baking dog treats. But why should cats miss out? So, in this series of blog posts we are going to be sharing our best Homemade Cat Treats recipes – starting with our Pawsome Cheesy Bites.
Homemade Cat Treats: Pawsome Cheesy Bites
Ingredients:
3/4 cup of grated cheese
1/3 cup of Parmesan
1/4 cup of plain yogurt
1 cup of flour
Approximately 1/4 cup of water
Instructions
#1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees (based on a fan assisted oven)
#2. Mix the cheeses together and then add the yogurt to combine them.
#3. Add 1 cup of flour and stir in carefully.
#4. Combine to make a dough using the water. Add in small amounts and if the dough becomes too sticky then add additional flour.
#5. There are 2 options for cutting up your treats. I found option 2 easier.
Option 1: Roll the dough on a floured surface and then cut into small pieces suitable for a cat. Place on grease proof paper on a baking tray.
Option 2: Roll the mixture 1/4 inch thick onto a floured surface. Place on grease proof paper on a baking tray and then score the mixture into small squares (without going all the way through the mixture).
#6. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
#7. Leave to cool before serving.
Verdict
These reminded me of a cheese biscuit / nibble that you might enjoy at Christmas. And…they tasted like them! (Yes, I had a quick nibble for research purposes!)
The cat loved them. They were a nice size and very crispy. The Parmesan cheese was a nice strong smell as well which made them more appealing.
