Having 3 dogs and living in the country we know all too well that dogs get dirty and need lots of baths. It’s always hard at the Pet Store to find something that smells nice and is natural and ‘dog’ friendly. So we were delighted to see that Eco Mutt ticked all those boxes.
As a fellow entrepreneur it was also lovely to see someone take the leap and build a business based on their passion for making soap and of course dogs!
So we took some time to find out a bit more about Susan and Eco Mutt in our interview below.
Tell us about yourself and your background? How did the range of products come about?
After working in the corporate world for many years, I decided to invest in a little ‘me time’ and I took some time out to explore my creative streak and as making soap really interested me, thats where I started. Initially I started developing recipes for soap as a hobby, but as friends and family wanted more and more of what I produced, I needed to make some changes. Instead of going back to corporate life, I took the plunge to start my own business. To ensure I was compliant with EU guidelines, I did a business course to cover all areas and had my own recipes certified to EU guidelines.
I developed my own recipes for luxurious, natural soaps using only natural additives as colour and scent. Using and selling ‘people’ soap made me think about what was available locally for dogs. I couldn’t find a local dog soap that I would consider using on Jerry, so I made my own and after vigorous testing (friends and family first, then Jerry!!) I started to sell Jerry’s Bar Soap. Soon I was working on further developing my dog grooming range and ECO MUTT evolved to include a liquid Shampoo with 3 varieties!
I’m very fortunate to be doing what I’m passionate about – all things natural and dogs!
What pets do you have?
I have a gorgeous springer spaniel, Jerry. Jerry has been part of the family since he was a pup and he was 12 in January.
Tell us about the products you sell?
Citronella, Lavender & Tea Tree is great for dogs that love outdoors as the essential oils have antiseptic and antibacterial qualities and is a natural bug repellant.
Chamomile & Rosemary is calming with anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antiseptic properties.
Unscented is great for super sensitive dogs without the addition of essential oils, but with the fresh smell of natural shea butter.
Jerry’s Bar SOAP is a hard bar of soap made with a blend of vegetable oils including castor oil, which is great for a dog’s coat. Naturally scented with lavender, tea tree & citronella, it’s soothing, calming & a natural bug repellent.
My people soaps include: Irish Lavender; Peppermint & Poppyseed; Rosemary & Lavender ; May Chang; Man Soap; Tequilla; Bloomsday Lemon Soap. I also offer a bespoke service where I can make a batch of soap based on specific aromas/requirements.
What ingredients do you use that make them special?
ECO MUTT dog shampoo is made with the finest quality vegetable based natural ingredients, free from SLS, parabens or toxins, with the luxurious addition of nourishing shea butter and essential oils
Jerry’s Bar Soap is packed with castor oil and essential oils keep your best friend smelling good and free from bugs!
All of my products are free from Parabens, Toxins, SLS, Chemical additives
Why will your products make my dogs tail wag?
Grooming is a great way to show your dog love and affection. Using a natural handmade product that feels luxurious and smells great makes it even better!
If you were a dog for the day which product would you want your owner to choose for you?
I would want my owner to choose an ECO MUTT product!

Pet Sitters Ireland Review Of ECO MUTT
We were very fortunate that Susan sent us some ECO MUTT products to try out on our dogs.
Odour Eliminator – I had actually been looking on the internet for a product like this to use on the rugs and dogs beds., so I was delighted to receive a sample of this new product. It was really effective and had a lovely subtle scent, so it didn’t over power the house with a strong cleaning smell. I left it down for an hour or so and I must say when I hovered it up I really felt it had done a good job of eliminating any doggie smells.
It was also great in the dogs beds, and what I loved most about it was that I knew it was all natural. So when the dogs were checking it out I didn’t have to worry about it harming them. So the Odour Eliminator gets a big paws up from us!
Jerry’s Soap and Eco Mutt Dog Shampoo – We tried these products out on our 2 Pointers Joey and Coco. Both are them get dirty from time to time when it is very muddy and wet (so a lot of the time!) so it was nice to try out a new product on them. As with the Odour Eliminator I had no worries that either of them would be allergic to it or have any reaction. It really does put your mind at ease when it’s a natural product.
I actually thought I would find the soap hard to use, but it was actually very easy. Susan had already advised me to make sure that the dogs were very wet when I was using it – so that was a useful tip. It was almost like a mini dog massage rubbing the soap on them, and they certainly didn’t mind!
The shampoo was a nice size and shape to handle, as sometimes with odd shaped bottles it can be hard to manage holding a dog, the shower head and the bottle! And I liked the light fragrance off them both. The smell lasted well – but it was nice that they didn’t smell like they fell out the perfume section of a department store 🙂
We totally agree with Susan that the Eco Mutt range of products are totally WAGTASTIC!
