5 Things Your Dog Walker Will Do To Keep Your Dog Safe?

Dog Walker

We are reading more and more about dogs being stolen in Ireland. Every time I check Facebook there seems to be more reports of animals being taken from their own home. So, as a Pet Sitting and Dog Walking company it is important for us to have policies on how we take care of your dog when we are out walking it.

It’s important that you are confident that your Dog Walker has a policy in place to ensure the safety of your dog.

How Do We Keep Your Dog Safe On A Dog Walk

We never let dogs off the lead.

People ask all the time if we let dogs off the lead for a run about and our answer is always no. Unless you have your own secure and fenced garden for us to throw a ball with them then we always keep them on the lead. There are a number of reasons for this which we discussed in a recent article about why we don’t do off lead walks– and dog theft is a big part of that.

We don’t post pictures on Facebook of where we walk your dog.

We don’t want to let people know where we are with your dog each day. Not only for home security but also in case there are people looking for particular dogs to steal.

We don’t socialise your dog on walks.

It is important for dogs to be socialised with other dogs – but it’s not something that we actively do on our dog walks. We prefer to focus our attention on your dog and not be distracted by other dogs or their owners. We want your dog to get their full walk in a safe and fun environment. You also might not want people to know you are using the services of a Dog Walker.

We never walk dogs in groups.

All of our walks are done on a one-on-one basis. We don’t want your dog to share their walk with someone else’s dog – nor do we want to make ourselves a target of potential dog theft. Too many dogs and you may be distracted and one could get lost or stolen. You can read more about the Pros and Cons of Group Dog Walks in our recent article.

We never talk about your dog.

We would never discuss the details of your dog – their breed, pedigree etc with anyone. We don’t want to alert people to where your dog lives and make them a target of dog theft. All our records are kept on our secure online booking system so every detail about your dog is safe and secure.
