The previous editions of this series have featured quite central Dog Friendly locations, so this week I decided I’d travel a bit further afield to the beautiful Sandymount, in Dublin 4. We’re lucky here in Dublin to have some excellent coastline, and Sandymount has some of the most beautiful coastline the city has to offer, as well as some great parks for a romantic day out with… your dog(s). I chose Sandymount as my destination this week because I read about Brownes of Sandymount – a Café and Bistro and noted dog friendly venue.
What Is Brownes of Sandymount?
Brownes of Sandymount doubles up as a café and coffee shop by day, bistro by night. They have been a family and tourist favourite for years, and were one of the first establishments to cater for canines with water bowls, ties for dog leads, and doggie carpets in their lovely terrace area. So I was very excited to head out and investigate for myself.
Where Is Brownes of Sandymount?
Brownes is located at Sandymount Green, in the heart of Sandymount, and is a really cosy spot, with a charming interior and outdoor seating. Sandymount is a community with loads to offer by way of food, parks, beach and character. The green is accessible by car, and convenient to access by public transport too – both Dublin Bus and the Dart serve Sandymount and stop not more than a ten-minute walk from Brownes on the Green.
Once you’ve finished treating yourself and your canine companion in Brownes, Sandymount Strand is a five-minute walk away, and is the perfect spot for a walk on a nice summer’s day. The strand stretches for several kilometres and offers a serene break away from urban life at the heart of the city.
What Is On Offer At Brownes of Sandymount?
It functions as a coffee shop and café by day, and a bistro by night. They offer modest lunch deals with freshly made sandwiches, wraps and ciabattas and a choice of soups. If you’ve already had lunch, Brownes also offer a very tempting afternoon treat deal – any cake and a regular tea or coffee for €5.95. The cakes are varied and include gluten-free options. From 5:30 in the evening Brownes functions as a bistro, with a range of options, all of which sound equally mouth-watering. And, if you’re on the go, they conveniently offer all their food and drinks to take away!
How Dog Friendly Is Brownes of Sandymount?
I first became interested in trying out Brownes because they have a good reputation when it comes to providing for dogs, with water bowls, lead ties and dog carpets. On my visit there were only three water bowls, all situated beside each other, behind a customer table. There was no sign of the ties and dog carpets.
On a positive note, they do have this neat bone shaped sign that reads “what part of ‘woof’ don’t you understand?” that I enjoyed very much.
Should You Visit Brownes of Sandymount?
With their outdoor seating, nearby park and beach, delicious food and water bowls, I’d definitely recommend Brownes!
Brownes opens 7:30-21:30 Monday to Wednesday, 7:30-22:00 Thursday to Saturday, and 8:30-21:30 Sunday. You can find out more about them at their Facebook page @BrownesOfSandymount or call them on (01) 269 7316
