Have you ever considered using a Dog Allergy Test?
My dogs’ health and happiness are my top priorities, so when my pointer dog Joey started showing signs of discomfort—excessive licking and scratching—I knew I had to find a solution.
I had previously spoken to the vet, who suggested he might have a grass allergy or be allergic to chicken, but they never actually tested him.
After some research, I came across the Easy DNA Dog Allergy Test, which promised to uncover any sensitivities or intolerances that might be affecting my dogs’ quality of life.
Given that Coco, my other pointer, occasionally licked her paws, I decided to test both dogs. I was curious to see if she had any allergies as well.
Why I Chose the Easy DNA Dog Allergy Test
The Easy DNA Dog Allergy Test screens for over 120 allergens, offering an extensive overview of what might be causing discomfort in your pet.
The idea of getting a detailed report on my dogs’ sensitivities sounded like the perfect step toward improving their well-being.
Plus, at €109 with a discount for a second dog, it was a reasonable investment.
The Testing Process
The kit arrived quickly with clear instructions on how to collect the samples. All I had to do was use the provided swab to collect saliva from my dogs.
We found that the best time to do the swab was when they were napping and relaxed. They weren’t exactly thrilled about it, but it wasn’t painful—just a new experience for them.
After collecting the samples, I sent them off to the lab, and within two weeks, I received the results.
The Results
The results provided a detailed breakdown of both environmental and food-related allergens that Joey and Coco might be sensitive to. To my surprise, Coco only had one main allergy—green peas. With low allergy to some fish, pork and turkey.

Joey, on the other hand, had a long list of sensitivities, including soy, lamb, pork, turkey, and even ants. Interestingly, he wasn’t allergic to grass or chicken, which had been the vet’s initial suspicion.

Implementing the Changes
We made immediate changes to Joey’s diet based on the results. The report was interactive, allowing me to click on each allergen and see detailed information about where it might be found in pet food.
For example, soy, which is a common ingredient in many commercial dog foods, had to be completely eliminated from Joey’s diet.
We switched him to a grain-free diet focused on beef and chicken, and even his treats are now 100% beef or chicken.
Coco’s adjustment was simple— and she now eats the same grain-free food as Joey.
The Results: Relief at Last!
The results were nothing short of amazing. Within two weeks, Joey’s incessant licking and scratching had significantly reduced. His coat looked healthier, and he seemed much more comfortable.
Pros of the Dog Allergy Test
- Comprehensive Testing: The test covers over 120 allergens, providing a thorough understanding of your dog’s sensitivities.
- Relatively Easy to Use: The sample collection was simple, even if my dogs weren’t too excited about it.
- Detailed Report: The results were clear and actionable, with specific recommendations on diet and care.
- Affordable: At €109, the test is a worthwhile investment in your dog’s health.
Cons
- Waiting Time: The 2-3 week wait for results felt long, especially when you’re eager to help your pet. However, this seems to be a common timeframe for tests like these and the results were worth the wait.
Is the Dog Allergy Test Worth It?
Absolutely. The Easy DNA Dog Allergy Test has been a game-changer for my dogs, especially Joey. Being able to eliminate the foods he’s allergic to has made it so much easier to adapt his diet, and it’s really handy to refer back to the list when making food choices. Best of all, Joey is so much more comfortable now—no more scratching or licking!
