How did Maya come into your life? Whatβs her story?
My brother got Maya when she was 8 weeks old as a companion for his 1 year old husky Shadow. Both are full bred and are IKC registered.
Unfortunately, MJ emigrated to Melbourne two and a half years ago and that’s when I got the gift of Maya moving in with me and Shadow in with my sister. The pair see each other every day and have sleep overs!
Maya has even Skyped MJ in Melbourne and I swear she knows his voice! He has came home twice and she just gets love struck when she sees him.
What makes Maya and her breed so special?
I love how smart she is and I also love how strong willed she is. We could be in the middle of playing a game and she just gives me this look like “I’m done” and that’s it, game over!
Huskys are such a gentle breed and adore little humans, her displays of affection will put a smile on anybody’s face, no matter what mood they are in.
As a working dog she always wants to do stuff so she’s a great motivation to keep active.
She has shown me that the best things in life are indeed free and that you couldn’t want for a more true or loyal best friend.
What makes Maya the most pawtastic pet EVER!
Maya is just like a little kid, she is so playful, energetic and is eager to make friends with every dog she meets. Not just dogs, she is a huge fan of Moo Moos! When we are on the farm she likes to walk around with them and lick their faces, they are so used to her now they don’t bat an eyelid. I love her ability to pick you up when you are feeling down and I love how she’s into Game of Thrones…as soon as dragons or dire wolves come on scene, she pricks her ears up and really watches!
We also think her little Mohawk is awesome!
Why did you decide to enter the Nose of Tralee?
Maya had just won prettiest dog at a show in aid of Mayo SPCA when I saw the ad online.
I thought it would be fun to enter her. And I wanted everyone to see what a great girl she is!
How did you prepare for the contest and get votes?
I shared it around on Facebook and told everyone I knew about it!
I also got in contact with some newspapers and radio stations. I was like Maya’s PR person!
What did it mean to you and Maya to get to the finals of the Nose Of Tralee?
We were delighted, especially to get the lovely sash. Also loved the hype around the town and people asking me “how’s the Mayo Nose”.
What did you enjoy most about the Nose Of Tralee?
We enjoyed the attention Maya got! I also liked getting to read the stories of the other Noses from around the country and seeing how much love there is out there for animals.
What advice would you give to the next Nose of your county?
Be prepared for people wanting your pawtoegraph!
How is your dog handling their new found fame?
Loving it! She is mad for attention so she is in her element.
If Maya could be any super hero who would they be?
Has to be Wonder Woman π
