Pet Sitters Ireland was born mainly out of a love for animals, but also from the realisation that pet owners want an alternative to the current pet care options available to them when they travel away from home.
Kate & Michael McQuillan moved to Ireland in 1999, with their cat Top Cat and their Collie Patch.
“We both love animals and our pets quickly took to a laid back life in the country. After being here 5 years, we found our second cat Smug. He appeared on our door step only weeks old. He was so small and could fit in the palm of your hand and he was very sick. Kate nursed him to health only for him to then fracture his pelvis and break his leg. But he did get better and quickly became part of the family.â€
“Soon after we found Lucky, she is an English Springer Spaniel who was left to fend for herself in the countryside. When we found her hiding in one of our outbuildings, she had fleas, mange and was a bag of bones. We took her in, got her well and now she also has become part of the family.â€
“From taking in Lucky and now having four pets it was hard to get away for a break, our friends and family don’t live local to us, but we wouldn’t like to ‘put on them’ anyway. Our pets don’t particularly like going to kennels or catteries, and it also took a while for them to settle once there and the same when they got home.â€
